A French partner in the Indian Ocean
A Réunion-based company to help develop, produce and deliver projects in collaboration with French partners.
PARTNER BRIEF · CO-PRODUCTION
One ocean. Stories to share.
Over The Moon Productions develops and produces fiction from Réunion Island. We are looking to build co-productions with South African partners, around our projects and theirs.
01 / TWO FILMMAKING CULTURES
A creative partnership first: the story, the people and the production shape the structure. Funding supports that shared vision.
A Réunion-based company to help develop, produce and deliver projects in collaboration with French partners.
Location scouting, crews, filming and logistics in Réunion, with a workflow built alongside South African crews and facilities.
Films rooted in their territories, developed to connect with audiences beyond their borders.
02 / A FIRST PROJECT
FICTION FEATURE · IN DEVELOPMENT
SEEKING A PARTNERA project connecting Réunion Island and South Africa, for which we are seeking a South African co-production partner.
Project presentation and partnership discussions available on request. Financing, rights and production responsibilities will be developed together.
SPEAK WITH BENJAMINOur first conversation around SHARKS also opens the door to other feature films and series.
03 / TWO WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER
Choose a route to see the relevant schemes and the points to check.
Admission opens access to national schemes under their own rules; it does not guarantee funding.
Official sourceSCHEMES TO CONSIDER
Each scheme depends on the project, applicant, qualifying expenditure, timing and the authority’s decision. Grants and rebates cannot simply be added together.
RÉGION RÉUNION
CO-PRODUCTIONUp to €300k
Cinema feature production · selective grant
A possibility for projects meeting regional eligibility and local spending requirements.
Writing: up to €15,000 for a series or feature. Fiction/animation development: up to €15,000, capped at 50% of development expenditure; combined development + pilot/mock-up support has a separate €40,000 ceiling.
The regional table lists production rates of 40%, 45% or 50% of local spend excluding VAT. The project’s funding limits and any bonuses must be confirmed.
The overall public-aid intensity ceiling is not a guaranteed grant rate: a South African co-production does not guarantee funding for 100% of Réunion expenditure.

CO-PRODUCTION30% / 20%
Possible rates, subject to conditions and approvals
To be assessed with the French delegate producer, considering language, production locations and qualifying expenditure.
Production must mainly take place in France, subject to accepted exemptions. Official co-production status alone does not secure the credit.
The qualifying base is capped at 80% of the French financing share. Public grants allocated to qualifying expenditure are deducted under CNC rules. Maximum credit: €30 million.
CNC · FRANCE
CO-PRODUCTION30%
For a foreign work using a French production services company
A separate route subject to CNC approval and a cultural test, based on qualifying French expenditure.
Minimum French expenditure: €250,000, or 50% of the worldwide budget if it is below €500,000. The five-day French shooting requirement applies to live action, with specific exceptions.
The 40% rate is restricted to qualifying VFX-heavy live-action fiction: at least 15% of shots processed and a €2 million French VFX expenditure threshold. It is not a general uplift. Maximum credit: €30 million.
Reserved for works not admitted to CNC production support. TRIP cannot be combined with the domestic French film tax credit. Qualifying expenditure starts when the CNC receives the application.
THE DTIC · SOUTH AFRICA
CO-PRODUCTIONTo confirm
Programme under review · assess with the South African partner
The guide distinguishes official co-production from foreign production services. Availability and applicable rules must be confirmed before commitments are made.
The 2025/26 guide describes a 35% rebate on qualifying South African co-production expenditure, capped at R25 million, with expenditure, filming, company and creative-contribution conditions.
Director and talent nationality conditions may require an exemption at provisional approval. A French director therefore means the rebate cannot be treated as secured.
The 25% foreign scheme has its own thresholds, including R15 million of expenditure and filming-day/location conditions. The 19 August 2026 notice announces a review; it does not establish a general suspension of new applications.
NFVF · SOUTH AFRICA
CO-PRODUCTIONApplication-based
Two separate processes
NFVF is the South African co-production authority. Its development and production funding has separate calls and eligibility criteria.
NFVF asks for provisional certification applications at least 30 days before filming. Prepare the co-production agreement and contribution split with the CNC.
Certification is neither a grant award nor a payment commitment.
CNC · INSTITUT FRANÇAIS
CO-PRODUCTIONProject-specific
A selective possibility to assess separately
The director’s nationality, original language and project structure must fit the current guidelines.
Having a South African co-producer or co-writer does not, by itself, establish eligibility. No ACM eligibility is being claimed for SHARKS at this stage.
ACM cannot be combined with TRIP or certain CNC selective cinema preparation/production grants. Funding ceilings are not promised amounts.
Confirm the project’s foundations, then apply in the right order. Where money is spent and how much each co-producer contributes are separate questions.
Share the project, clarify the chain of title and each partner’s role.
Agree contributions, expenditure, production tasks and pre-shoot approval applications.
Obtain authority confirmations, secure commitments and plan payments according to the agreements.
